It's snowing !

"Best night so far", Dirk announced as he arrived back at 4am from grooming. They switched to an earlier start to catch the snow in transition - as it was starting to freeze. The crew is increasing in size with Michel from Quebec City and Jeremy from Montana having just arrived.

"Perfect conditions," is the words I overheard the German skiers mention to their head coach, Cuno as they were circulating back on the red classic course at the north end of the stadium.

I was able to pass this information on to Dirk only by telephone, as we are now on opposite schedules. I left at 5am this morning for my marshal post. And am now in Vancouver, about to go to the Opening Ceremonies Rehearsal - a benefit for all Games Volunteers. The excitement that snowflakes were cascading down from the sky will help the conditions even more. There are 5cms predicted today, and 10cms tomorrow. Fantastic for Whistler...but, Vancouver is still receiving rain.

Met up with the Olympic xc forerunners - and gave Michelle Workin-Hill a big hug as she arrived at WOP with her fellow forerunners, chosen from across the country. Michelle and crew raced an interval time trial with two laps of the skate blue course today. This was the first of three test days for the timing system, host broadcast cameras and stadium announcing. At first I was a wee bit confused...as the announcers were announcing the top men's names, and these came up on the stadium pixel board. I soon figured out that each forerunner was a replacement skier for a true Olympic athlete making for a very realistic rehearsal.
