W's 10km individual start (2 x 5km) Free

Warm up loop opened at 8am. You can see this cool set-up, that has ups, downs, flats and all infront of the athlete 'Day Lodge' - a stunning BC Log structure, with hand carved totem pole support posts, an abundance of window - with a view- even cast iron chairs with Inukshuks cut of their backs.
The snow as mentioned in my course conditions piece is fragile, thus warm-up on the race courses was shortened to only 45 minutes before race start. At 10am...the first woman shot out of the stadium to cheering spectators waving a multitude of flags, banners and strong voices.

Canada's sole entry was Madelaine Williams, of Edmonton AB. Seen here on TV walking to her start in the large Olympic stadium.

Individual starts sure bring out the inner drive of ski racers. Yes, you get splits along the race course, to let you know how the others are fairing...but really its a race all for yourself. Certain skiers excel at individual starts, others rise to a different level in a mass start.

Which do you prefer ???
Hey, let me know you're reading my blog with a comment ! It's appreciated :)

The winners....Sweden, Estonia, and Norway sure set an amazing pace.

  2. Great coverage from the backend. As a groomer, coach and CCC employee it sure is awesome to see the dedication put forth by the hundreds of volunteers and staff at the venue. Well done on the first race day guys. Keep up the great work.
